How to read a contract address before you buy

What a Solana or EVM address tells you on sight, and the checks to run before the first buy.

The ticker is marketing. The contract address is the token. Learning to read one takes a minute and saves you from most copycat tokens.

Solana addresses

Base58 strings of 32 to 44 characters, with no 0, O, I or l. Launchpads often grind vanity suffixes: …pump for pump.fun, …bonk for letsbonk. A suffix tells you where it launched, not whether it is safe.

EVM addresses

BNB Chain, Base, Ethereum and Robinhood share one format: 0x plus 40 hex characters. The same address can exist on several chains with different tokens, so always confirm the chain.

Five checks

  1. Paste the address into the inspector, not the name.
  2. Mint and freeze authority off (Solana) or no mint / blacklist (EVM).
  3. Top 10 holders below roughly 30% excluding the pool.
  4. Liquidity in proportion to market cap.
  5. Callers and timing on the chart markers.
